This week the wider grain market was under pressure, resulting from the trade friction between the US and EU regarding tariffs. London feed wheat for March 2025 fell to £166.75, down 1.3% from last week's closing price of £168.90. The carry to July 2025 widened to £14.35.
The discount of old crop UK feed futures (May-25) under new crop (Nov-25) reached a record level of £19.65/t on Wednesday’s close to the market. With the market outlook uncertain, now might still be the time to clear out the shed of old crop, particularly to take advantage of the carry to May-July.
On Hectare Trading, feed wheat saw price offers up to £191 in Central Scotland for March 2025 movement, and received offers of £184 in North West for April 2025 movement. Group 4 (Hard) wheat achieved offers up to £177 in East of England for April 2025 movement and Group 4 (Soft) wheat saw price offers of £187 in North East Scotland for March 2025 movement.
Paris milling wheat for May 2025 rose to £189.59 (€226.75), up 1.5% from last week's closing price of £186.87 (€223.50). This follows Türkiye’s announcement reducing import taxes for wheat and maize. The carry to December 2025 narrowed to £7.73.
Rapeseed prices rebounded despite Chinese 100% tariffs on Canadian canola oil imports. Paris rapeseed for May 2025 rose to £411.37 (€492.00), up 5.0% from last week's closing price of £391.72 (€468.50). August 2025 rose to £394.23 (€471.50), up 3.2% from last week's closing price of £382.11 (€457.00). The carry to November 2025 widened to £2.51.
Elsewhere on Hectare Trading, rye received offers up to £156 in Central Scotland for June 2025 movement. Milling oats saw price offers of £150 in the East Midlands for March 2025 movement. Feed beans achieved offers up to £230 in the West Midlands for April 2025 movement.
Feed barley received offers of £170 in the West Midlands and Feed barley (2-Row) saw price offers up to £170 in North East Scotland, both for March 2025 movement. Malting barley achieved offers of £172 in Central Scotland for March 2025 movement.
